We began the lecture by looking at the definition of a metaphor:
‘A metaphor is a literary figure of speech that uses an image, story or tangible thing to represent a less tangible thing or some intangible quality or idea’

We then looked at metaphors in relation to the ideological work, and here is some phrases that emphasises this set of ideas:
- power is high
- sex is violence
- disease is invasion
- race is colour
“Ideology is an unsurpassable phenomenon of social existence”
In the lab session we were asked to find metaphors in todays world. I began by looking at news and information websites. I read through articles to try and find terms or phrases that were metaphors for real world things and situations. Here’s what I found:
Our task for next week is to prepare the presentation mentioned in week 3 blog entry. Me and Dean have to choose a writers each and talk about their ideas and work during next weeks class. The writer I chose is Noam Chomsky.
